Today on the tests a 17-inch laptop Pulse GL76 11uek, Which MSI created in collaboration with the world in the world in Zbrush Maarten Verkhoven, who took part in the work on the Avengers, the Hobbit and the Walking Dead. We will consider the laptop in the maximum configuration: with RTX 3060 and Core i7 of the 11th generation.
Design, materials, assembly
It looks like Pulse GL76 solid and restrained. From the accents we highlight a couple of chopped lines framing the keyboard area, engraved by textured pattern on the top cover, curly ventilation cutouts from the bottom and RGB backlighting of the keyboard.
The main part of the case is made of black matte plastic, on which there are almost no fingerprints and which is difficult to accidentally scratch. The upper cover consists of two parts: the main one is made of metal, a small insert closer to the hinges of the display – from plastic. From it, in the center of the case, the line is a silver edging “under the metal”, which shares the base and top of the laptop. The last stroke is eight decorative elements near the keyboard.
The device was assembled as a whole soundly. Due to the tough metal cover, the case in the hands does not “walk”, the panels do not creak, there are no backlash in the joints, and the keyboard is not bend under the palms. The upper cover is thrown back in one finger, is reliably fixed and not shaking. The only negative is the lower panel is thin for a 17-inch laptop and is tangibly walking when carrying.
Ergonomics and autonomy
The laptop weighs 2.6 kg (plus 350 gram power supply) and reaches 2.8 cm in thickness-a lot, but acceptable for the model with a diagonal of 17 inches. The screen is reclaid 180 degrees, the cooling system is organized so that the panels on which the hands lie always remain cool.
The touchpad here is large (10×6.5 cm), with clearly defined faces; Left and right buttons are pressed independently of each other. The keyboard is full-size, with ANSI-disagtering (long left Shift and one-story Enter), there are no restrictions on the number of simultaneously pressed keys. At the site of a lot of “hot” keys: you can adjust the sound, control multimedia, turn on or disconnect the microphone, activate the forced cooling mode, and also configure the brightness of the display.
As we have already said, the keyboard has an RGB backlight, which can be synchronized through the MSI MSI MSI MSI MSI MSITIC LIGHT with other MSI devices. The backlight itself is uniform and equally well illuminates both Cyrillic and Latin. Upset only a modest set of effects (there are only four of them) and the lack of independent adjustment.
The set of interfaces is standard. USB 2 are located on the left side.0, USB 3.2 and connector for power supply, with the right – USB 3.2, USB 3.2 Type-C, HDMI, 3.5 mm jack and gigabit Ethernet port.
As for autonomy, the battery is 53 mAh here, and there is enough of it for exactly 30 minutes of playing in F1 2021 and 2 hours and 45 minutes of work with text. Note that inside the case there is a place for a more voluminous battery, but instead of one of the battery cells there is a plug.
Display, sound, webcam
The display here is a diagonal of 17 inches C Full HD resolution, which in total gives the density of pixels in the area of 129 ppi: no problems with the clarity of the picture or readiness of the text. The screen itself is built at a fast IPS panel with a frequency of 144 Hz, however, the color coverage for IPS is weak: 61% SRGB, 42% Adobergb, 44% DCI-P3. Hence the mediocre color rendering, which is especially noticeable on the shades of blue. The average ΔE00 was 4.6, and the maximum value exceeded 22.
But the color temperature is exposed almost perfectly: 6800k. Good and brightness: its maximum reaches 270 cd/m2, and a minimum of 11 kD/m2. There are also no complaints about the contrast: 1234: 1, an excellent result for IPS. The uniformity of the backlight is also close to the reference: the light Glow effect in the upper left corner is noticeable only in complete darkness and on a continuous black background.
In games, the display showed itself well, a high frequency and a relatively quick response do their job: in CS: GO Playing is comfortable. However, we would prefer a slower matrix, but with a more adequate color rendering. In addition, in the future I would like to see the support of Nvidia G-Sync: in mobile PCs that are not able to stably give out 144 FPS, this is very by handy.
Webcam Standard: HD resolution, 30 fps. With a day or well -placed artificial light, a picture for video calls in Telegram , WhatsApp And Zoom Shine. Through mediocre light – noisy and crumbles into squares.
Now about the sound. From a 3.5 mm exit, it is familiar for MSI, good. The sound is neutral and pure – it’s nice to listen even in pairs with audiophile Sennheiser HD 660S with a resistance of 150 Ohms, the volume is enough with a margin. But packed acoustics, with a volume twisted to the stop, resonates with the body. At the same time, the speakers themselves could be louder: listen to the news, my dishes in the kitchen, it will not work.
Iron and cooling system
Cooling system MSI PULSE GL76
MSI Sword cooling system
Iron Pulse GL76 is the following: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop video card, processor Intel Core i7-11800h with 8 nuclei and 16 streams, network module Intel AX210NGW With support for Wi-Fi 6i 16 GB DDR4 with a frequency of 3200 MHz and CL22 in two-channel mode. As a drive, NVMe SSD is used Kingston volume of 1 TB based on the controller PHISON PS5012-E12. The speeds of linear reading and recording are equal to 2.1 GB/s and 1.7 GB/s.
MSI cooling the cooling system Cooler Boost 5. Crystals of the GP and CPU are covered with copper heating systems, from which three and two heat tubes depart, respectively. From GDDR, the heat is diverted with a separate aluminum radiator to which its own copper heat pipe is soldered. The ends of the tubes are soldered to two radiators on the sides of the laptop, on each of which is installed according to a 40 mm turbine type fan with a diameter. The minimum noise in downtime is 36.5 dB, in a balanced mode it rises to 39 dB, in extreme – to 47. The spent hot air is thrown out through the holes in the back and left parts of the laptop, without heating the touchpad and keyboard.
We saw a similar cooling system at the MSI Sword laptop, but there it worked with Core i5-11400h. How she copes with a more powerful CP? Similarly: 84 ° in games and 86 ° in Prime95. There is a restriction on energy consumption: what is there, what is the processor gets only 40 watts with extremely rare jumps up to 60 watts.
With such rigid frequency limits, compared to Core i5 below: if 11400h kept stable 4 GHz in our Metro Exodus , then i7-11800h fell to 3.4; In Prime95 and Linx 0.9.7 2.9 GHz and 2.4 came out in visualizers based on V-ray (Corona Benchmark, 3DS Max)-3.6 versus 3.2 GHz.
But in terms of a video card of differences from MSI Sword, there is no at all, since it cools in the same way and has a similar limit of 80 watts. As a result – GPU warms up to 84 ° C, and the frequency is held in the range of 1390 – 1450 MHz (in Metro Exodus).
Let's move on to the results. In almost all games (with disabled trace), the settings can be twisted to the maximum – the laptop copes and does not allow friezes, but it will not always be about 60 fps. For them, unfortunately, you often have to sink to just “high” graphics parameters. Similarly with rays tracing. You can turn it on only steam with DLSS well or at very low levels of study.
Conclusions
Even despite the strong restrictions on energy consumption, the Pulse GL76 showed himself normally. Compared to his analogue on the six -core Core i5, it is faster in both working tasks and games that lie on multi -flow performance (Cyberpunk 2077, Total War: Three Kingdoms, Watch Dogs Legion. The number of available nuclei also affected multiza: we managed to launch a broadcast on the processor on the processor Twitch in HD resolution at 60 FPS, and hold CS: GO On stable 144 fps.
As for the Pulse GL76, it has two obvious disadvantages: only 120 W for the needs of the GP and CPs combined and a display with color coverage of only 61% SRGB. Of the advantages, we note an excellent assembly and materials, a restrained and understandable design, not a too noisy cooling system, thoughtful ergonomics, good sound in headphones and decent performance in modern games without ray tracing.
